Meet the Family

Our professional staff combines an intimate knowledge of our wines with many years of experience providing friendly, personalized service. Our stores are a welcoming and casual environment, where we’d much rather chat with you about what you might be having for dinner than the recent ratings from shiny wine magazines.
Owner

Greg Moore

Greg Moore was a drawing student at the Philadelphia College of Art, who (like many other young artists) found an economic safety net in restaurant work. Beginning in 1971 at Janine et Jeannine, one of the first French restaurants in Philadelphia, Greg worked his way through some of the finest dining rooms in the city, and joined the staff at Le Bec-Fin on Spruce Street. He became the restaurant’s sommelier in 1981, and after the move to larger quarters on Walnut Street, became its General Manager in 1986.

In 1996 Greg opened Moore Brothers Wine Company with his brother David Moore. Here, every wine is selected in a direct, personal relationship with the farmer-grower who made it, and is shipped and stored in perfect conditions of temperature control.

“The craft of the sommelier,” says Greg, “is the craft of matching wine and food and people.”

Owner

David Moore

David Moore started buying wine for Philadelphia restaurants in 1977 and was managing partner of Philadelphia’s first “wine bar” in 1981. In 1991, after nearly twenty years in restaurants (including five spent at Le Bec-Fin), David took over the wine program at a New Jersey retailer and built a nationally recognized business focused on “wines off the beaten track.” In 1996 he and his brother, Greg joined forces to form Moore Brothers Wine Company. He’s our resident mapmaker and graphic design department, as well as IT director. He is often found staring at data and code, or screaming at misbehaving computers.

Office/Public Relations Manager

Katherine Moore

Katherine joined Moore Brothers as our office manager in 2003, and quickly established that her thorough attention to detail warranted much more responsibility. Today, she manages the administrative departments for all three Moore Brothers locations as well as the company’s human resources and public relations. Bureaucratic talents aside, she is equally skillful on the sales floor (if she ever gets the opportunity to leave her office), having accumulated a wealth of wine knowledge over many years of self-study, including an immersive trip to Germany and France with Greg in 2012.

Terry Moore

Along with his cousin Katherine, he is proud to represent the younger Moore generation at Moore Brothers. Though a career at in the family’s business was never encouraged or expected, Terry has always had a generous and willing mentor in his father, Greg, with whom he has traveled to visit winegrowers in France, Italy, Germany and the United States throughout his life. The experiences, seemingly boring during his childhood, laid the foundation for a fascination with food and wine, as well as a genuine appreciation for the work of our extraordinary suppliers. Terry has most enjoyed telling their stories since he joined Moore Brothers in 2011.

Manager, New Jersey

Brian Healy

Brian fell in love with food and wine when post-college travels found him in Piemonte making ricotta and robiola at the town Formaggeria, salami with the local butcher, and harvesting grapes for the nearby cooperative. Watching batches of Dolcetto and Barbera being made by hand cemented his love of wine and his understanding of its central place in the food culture of Italy. His travel experiences led naturally to a career as the manager and wine-director at notable area restaurants once back in Philadelphia, before finding a long-term home as the store manager of Moore Brothers Pennsauken.

Manager, New York

Ecco Adler

Ecco is an original Moore Brother. After a post-collegiate stint at prominent Philadelphia restaurants, he helped open the first Moore Brothers shop in June 1996. A later move to New York City found him switching gears to work for a notable fine wine importer/distributor, before returning to Moore Brothers to run our New York shop in May 2006. As the store manager in New York, Ecco has trained and directed a staff that has been recognized consistently as providing one of the best customer experiences of any retail establishment in New York City.

Manager, Delaware

Phil Montigney

A visit to Napa piqued Phil’s interest in wine nearly ten years ago – so much so that he has returned four more times since. But it wasn’t until he enrolled in a wine course (taught by none other than our own Kathryn Shockor) during his MBA studies at WilmU, that he discovered the fascinating world of European wine. Since then, Phil has sought out every opportunity to expand his wine knowledge, including most consequentially, joining Moore Brothers Delaware in 2014. Today, he is the store manager of our Wilmington shop, where his most important daily task is keeping Frank entertained.

Frank Splane

Frank is an original Moore Brother, as he was part of the small team that opened the first Moore Brothers shop in June 1996. Though he is known to be almost entirely responsible for our winegrower relationships in Italy, he cut his teeth on French wine during a series of immersive trips and intensive study throughout France as a young Manhattan wholesaler. Travels to Italy followed, where he met many of the core winegrowers (like Elio Grasso, Paolo De Marchi and Gianni Piccoli) whose wines have been Moore Brothers staples since the beginning. When he’s not poring over inventory spreadsheets or leading an intense staff training, Frank can be found playing in a local (“Old Guys”) amateur baseball league, where he’s known for his defensive prowess at 3rd base and hitting with equal facility from both sides of the plate.

Anthony Sianni

Anthony brings his passion for cooking to Moore Brothers Delaware, where he’s been a fixture in the shop since 2015. Staying true to his roots, Anthony has toured Italy twice in order to gain firsthand culinary experience in the variety of cuisines found throughout the country – of course, being able to visit and taste with our Italian suppliers doesn’t hurt either. Outside of Moore Brothers, Anthony is a private music teacher and can be found playing the bass on stages up and down the east coast.

Bill Sweeney

In addition to sharing his love for food and wine with our customers on a daily basis, Bill is our resident refrigeration specialist and general MacGyver of all things at Moore Brothers New York. He joined us in 2006, following a long career in commercial refrigeration – needless to say, we could not be luckier to have him on staff. Cooling systems aside, Bill is always happy to share the knowledge accumulated from years of personal study and extensive travels in wine regions throughout Europe and the United States.

Dale Southam

Dale Southam has been a full-time/part-time member of the Delaware family for over 16 years. Moore Brothers was a natural fit for Dale with his background of promoting natural products, wine, food and music (he plays wicked “blues-harp”). He was the long time wine steward for the “Rodney Square Club,” where his list was noted by the Wine Spectator.

Danielle Lynn

Danielle is our resident oenologist, with a master’s degree in viticulture and oenology from a consortium of universities in France and Italy, where her thesis explored the efficacy of different types of wine bottle closures(!). But aside from her scientific studies, spending time in Europe allowed her to better understand the important role of wine and food in everyday French and Italian culture. Danielle joined Moore Brothers New Jersey in 2015.

Eric Tuverson

Eric’s entire adult life has been dedicated to wine, beer, spirits, and food. He has spent the past nineteen years at Moore Brothers Delaware, and most of the previous ten years at Le Bec-Fin with Greg (“he’ll never shake me,” says Eric.) Yes, his football career suffered, but he hasn’t regretted a moment.  Eric has many tall tales and much good fortune to share with you, as he has visited over one hundred winegrowers during his Moore Brothers career, so make sure to bend his ear the next time you’re in the Wilmington shop.

John Murphy

John “Coach” Murphy first met David Moore in the “Camden Catacombs” over twenty-five years ago. After a long tenure teaching English, and coaching high school football in the Philadelphia Public School system, “Coach” found his retirement interrupted when he was “drafted” by David Moore more years ago than he can remember. John is filled with enthusiasm for food and wine, and is our “go to” for reviews of local BYOB restaurants.

Joseph DiLuzio

With a doctorate in French and fluency in Italian as a native South Philadelphian, Dr. Joseph DiLuzio, Phd., has never been one to shy away from conversation. But if you hear him tell it, “matriculating at Moore Brothers University” in 1999 enabled him to speak more fluently about food and wine; his command of French and Italian has made the transition to the wine world a smooth and happy one. Joseph continues to travel in Europe as often as possible to visit family in Italy, and to reconnect with the “viticoltori” who are now, more than effectively, part of his extended family.

Kathryn Shockor

Kathryn’s career in the world of food and wine has included professional training at London’s Le Cordon Bleu, extensive culinary and wine-related travels throughout Europe, ownership of Penny Hill Confections, and the development of food and wine curricula in classrooms from North Carolina to Delaware – most recently as an adjunct professor at the University of Wilmington. As part of the Moore Brothers DE original cast, her culinary expertise and wine proficiency (not to mention her Southern charm) have enriched the experiences of our Wilmington customers since day one.

Kokouvi Ahondo

Kokouvi is the inventory logistics wizard at Moore Brothers – no discrepancies elude his sharp eye (and none of his colleagues’ mistakes go unpunished!) Since joining us in 2006, he has been an irreplaceable part of Moore Brothers, ensuring that accurate records are kept at all times in all three shops. But in addition to his work behind the logistical curtain, Kokouvi has an abundance of wine knowledge and cheerful advice to share.

Lana Rivera

Lana was a long-time customer at Moore Brothers when she joined us (actually, she was drafted) in 2007. We figured she’d had a bottle of everything in the store at that point, and could tell us a thing or two about each one. Aside from her impeccable customer service and calm demeanor, she terrorizes the rest of the crew as “staff scheduler” in New Jersey.

Linden Harding

Linden Harding is the newest member of the family. He’s lived in London and Bermuda, but first discovered Moore Brothers in New York City, where he was working for Christie’s Auction. His extensive background in travel, wine, and his tremendous curiosity have been a wonderful addition to our day-to-day operations.

Roseanne Overton

Roseanne comes to us after a long career in the hospitality industry. Her interest in wine started with her family’s involvement with a local New Jersey winery. When she attended the re-opening tasting for our Brooklyn store, she found a home for her curiosity. Roseanne also has a work ethic that challenges us all, and she has been a wonderful addition to the Moore Brothers New Jersey store.

Scott Witzlsteiner

Following his first career as a ballet dancer, Scott developed an interest in specialty food and beverages; first as a cheese specialist, and later in wine and craft beer sales. He is a member of the American Cheese Society, and has acquired certifications for Beer, Wine and Spirits from the Cicerone Education Trust. It’s no surprise that Scott is grateful to have found his home at Moore Brothers, where he can talk about what he loves while having the opportunity to further his education every day.

Susan Crawshaw

Susan Crawshaw joined Moore Brothers in 2006 after a long career (she might say too long) in financial-services marketing. An avid gardener and home cook, she coordinates our CSA partnership with Lancaster Farm-Fresh Co-op and writes Boxing Day, a recipe blog on CSA cooking. Susan is a big fan of Rheinhessen Riesling, Lambrusco, Cru Beaujolais, Dolcetto, and the Chicago Cubs.
